Circus director. DS, seven pages, 8.5 x 14, July 24, 1911. An agreement between Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company and Ringling Bros. World’s Greatest Shows regarding “Circus Company is owner or lessee of certain railroad cars especially designed for the transportation of a circus, its employees and appurtenances. This fascinating document details train speeds, schedules and also includes values of the animals being transported! “Elephants, Hippopotami, Rhinoceroses, each, $500.00… Performing horses and zebras, $100.00…All other members of the equine species, $75.00…Lions and tigers, $100.00…Seals, $10.00…” Lowly monkeys, crocodiles, serpents and reptiles were worth only $5.00 each! Signed towards the bottom of page seven in fountain pen. In fine condition, with slight bleeding to a few letters of the signature, a horizontal fold through a letter of the signature, typical office stamps and notations, file and staple holes to the upper left corner.
