Description

James Monroe sends out his memoirs

ALS, one page both sides, 5 x 7.75, March 19. Letter to an unidentified gentleman. In full, “I send you a copy of my memoirs which I think you will read with some interest. You will be so kind as to call when convenient. We expect Mr. Swann up on Monday with our good Daughter. Mrs. Monroe’s health improves. I hope that yours and that of the whole family is good. Mr. Berkley will of course read the memoir. Should other friends then desire it, I will thank you to give them the opportunity. I expect more copies soon, when I will enable them to return to yours.” Accompanied by the original address leaf, addressed in Monroe’s hand. In good condition, with even toning, scattered spotting from moisture exposure, partial separation to top mailing fold, lower portion of reverse has been silked and all writing clear and legible. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
