Description

Japanese general. He commanded during the unsuccessful defense of the Philippines against the invading Allies under Douglas MacArthur. In Sept. 1945, he surrendered. He went on trial before a military commission in Manila for atrocities committed by soldiers under his command. He was found guilty and hanged. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Yamashita arriving in Manila after his surrender, signed in black ink in both English and Japanese. Written on the reverse, by Lt. Col, Aubrey S. Kenworthy, “The arrival at Manila, 2 Sept. 1945 of General Yamashita ‘The Tiger of Malaya’ after surrender at Kilo Point #70 on Highway #5 N. W. of Bagabag, northern Luzon 1 Sept 1945.” Some scattered light silvering and some light corner creasing, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
