English scholar and writer. Fellow and tutor at Oxford from 1925-54, and professor of English at Cambridge from 1954-63. Authored many books including The Screwtape Letters, Perelandra and seven fantasy tales for children collectively titled The Chronicles of Narnia. ALS, one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, April 18, 1950. Letter to a Miss McEwan. In part, “I have not heard about any uniform edition of C. W.’s complete works. Faber is republishing the novels, I’m told, but whether uniform or not I don’t know. The novels are also being republished in U. S. A. but in the present state of the £ I expect that edition wd. be fabulously expensive for us. There is no talk of any new edition of The Region. In fact, the prospect looks bleak!” Letter is gilt and cloth matted by the Gallery of History, to an overall size of 12.75 x 16, which is in turn affixed by hinges to a cloth gil matted and framed presentation bearing a biographical plaque, a testimonial, a photo of Lewis and a transcript of the letter, to an overall size of 38 x 26. In fine condition, with light mailing folds. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
