DS, fifteen pages, 8.5 x 13, August 22, 1931. Agreement between Milland and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer employing Milland. In part: “The producer hereby employs and engages the artist to render his exclusive services as an actor for and during the term of this agreement…the artist agrees that he will act, pose and appear solely and exclusively for and as requested by the producer in such roles and in such photoplays as the producer may delegate…that he will make personal appearances on the stage in connection with the exhibition with the exhibition of photoplays produced by the producer.” The agreement further details rights of the producer, including dubbing, public morals, insurance, etc. Interestingly, it is agreed that unless period costumes are required, Milland will supply his own wardrobe! The agreement is for a period of six months at $250 per week, with subsequent periods and salaries detailed. Signed by Irving Thalberg as Vice President and signed “R. Milland” and “Raymond Alton Milland” at the bottom of page 15. In fine condition, with scattered faint creasing, a paper clip impression to the last page, very slight overlapping of Thalberg’s and Milland’s signatures. R&R COA.
