American inventor who developed and patented the vulcanization process which is the basis of all rubber manufacturing. Despite the patent, Goodyear became embroiled in legal battles over ownership of the process and died in debt in 1860. Check, written a little more than a month before his death, 6.25 x 2.25, filled out and signed by Goodyear, payable to Fred'k Cullan for 25.00, May 29, 1860.
