Description

'The New Hammerhead's primary wartime mission is to destroy enemy submarines.'

TLS signed 'H. G. Rickover,' one page, 8 x 10.5, U.S.S. Hammerhead, Fleet Post Office letterhead, April 22, 1968. In part: 'We are returning from the first sea trials of the USS Hammerhead, our 35th attack type nuclear submarine. The ship completed all tests. The first USS Hammerhead was commissioned 1 March 1944. In World War II she made seven war patrols and won seven battle stars. She is now serving the Turkish Navy as Cerbre (03). The New Hammerhead's primary wartime mission is to destroy enemy submarines. The characteristics of high speed, endurance and environmental independence provided by nuclear propulsion; and the latest in submarine weapons systems combine to make Hammerhead one of the Navy's most effective antisubmarine.' Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
