Maurice Talleyrand-Perigord

Member of the National Assembly during the French Revolution and helped Napoleon found the First Empire. ALS signed 'Talleyrand,' one page, 7.25 x 9.5, Philadelphia letterhead, February 10, 1795, addressed to Charles Vaughan in Boston on the integral back leaf in another hand. In part: 'I apply to your kindness to request you to deliver the enclosed letter to Mr. LaRoche, a French gentleman who lives at McLeon. The object of the letter is to give a commission for a sum, from one hundred to two hundred dollars, will be wanted. We take the liberty to inform LaRoche that for that sum he may apply to you, and desire you to draw upon us for the same, or to let us know in what other way any other suits better your arrangements.' In fine condition, with a dark area resulting from sealing wax remnants on the reverse, scattered light creasing and a vertical fold through one letter of the signature. RRAuction COA.
