Highlights of the collection include: four ALS from Katharine Hepburn, three signed 'Kate,' and one signed 'Katharine.' One reads, in part, 'Scene after scene - after scene - Ralph Richards, Jason Robards - Dean Stockwell - We began three weeks ago...S. T. is still in Cal. as he thought it would be better for us to be alone - Call him up - He's very lonely.' Eight Fonda ALS are included, seven signed 'Hank,' and one signed 'H',' most from the 1940's and 50's, several written on postcards and several while serving in the military. One Fonda letter reads, in part, 'Our summer is still unplanned - there is talk about a movie of 'Mister Roberts' but nothing very definite. Unless there is an exciting movie to do - we'll be back to Long Island this summer.' One of his letters, written while serving in the military, mentions 'The war seems to have taken an amazing turn out here - but I'm no more optimistic than I was last spring that we'll have finished it sooner than two or three more years.' Ford's letters consist of nine ALS on postcards, all signed 'Pappy,' from the 1940's and 50's, and three one page ALS, all signed 'Pappy,' written while in the Navy. One reads, in part, 'Place is jumping with pitcher [sic] personalities...Raquel Welch and Joe Besser are here working - of course I see them occasionally - Joe is still Joe.' A TLS from Ford, signed 'The Director,' dated September 14, 1944, reads, in part, 'I may see you shortly. Willy-Nilly Navy may order me to M. G. M. for temporary duty (God what a war) to direct 'They Were expendable.'The lot also includes candid photos, telegrams, newspaper clippings, and a Playbill. In overall fine condition. RRAuction COA.
