Black bandleader who died at 45 years of age in 1947 when he suddenly collapsed; rumors have persisted that he was poisoned by a racist restaurant owner who was very reluctant to feed his band. Terrific promotional vintage glossy 8 x 10 portrait, signed and inscribed in fountain pen 'To Charlotte, Best Wishes from Jimmie Lunceford, 1/25/42.' In fine condition, with scattered creasing, a couple of minor separations to the left and right borders which have been repaired on the reverse. RRAuction COA.
