Description

Einstein sends a postcard from Germany

ALS in German, signed 'Albert,' on a 3.5 x 5.5 postal card, no date. Letter to his wife, Else Einstein. In full, 'Yesterday, 12 o'clock, after a happy night journey (thanks to Isie), I arrived at Utrecht. There I stayed with Owens (who sadly with his wife was suffering from heart trouble) until evening, and then traveled on to Leiden, where I was surprised by a festival in my honor. It was a happy reunion. Since the Russians are staying with you, they also stayed in Berlin. My friend Owen has invited me to stay with him, I do so in a lovely room. He and his wife are very kind. I will arrive on the 7th of Nov. in Berlin. Again a party to honor me, and friend Owens has instigated to postpone he lecture in Hanover until the 6th of Nov.' Reverse address panel is filled out to 'Else Einstein,' in Einstein's hand, with his signature, 'A. Einstein,' appearing again in the return address area. In fine condition, with a bit of light soiling and toning and a pencil notation on address side. COA John Reznikoff/University Archives and RRAuction COA.
