Samuel Huntington

Elected to Connecticut's Upper House of Assembly in 1776, he served on the Council of Safety, and was selected a delegate to the Continental Congress that year. He served two terms as President of the Congress during the important adoption of the Articles of Confederation. Later became Governor of Connecticut. DS, signed 'Saml. Huntington,' one page, 8 x 5.5, October 9, 1788. Financial document authorizing the payment of four pounds and ten shillings to Jeremiah Leach 'out of the funds appropriated for payment of the civil list.' In very good condition, with light overall toning, circular punched cancellation hole above signature, affecting top loop of first letter only and some light show through from endorsements on reverse.
