Endorsement at the top of a one page 8.5 x 12.5 report, dated August 20, 1811. His report illustrates the amount of direct control that Napoleon had over his army. It was submitted to Napoleon by Louis-Alexandre Berthier, one of the original Marshals of the Empire and Chief of Staff of the Grand Armee (signed 'Alexandre' Le Prince de Wagram et de Neuchatel). In it, Berthier requests a few months sick leave for a Monsieur Thinur, commander of the 9th Regiment of Dragoons. Thinur, who had been in the army for 20 years including the previous four years on active service in Spain, where he had been wounded on several occasions, had recently been examined by the doctors and surgeons of 'l'armee du centre,' who certified that he was suffering from fatigue and chest pains. Napoleon has approved the sick leave by affixing his imperial 'Accorde N' at the head of the report and has provided the dates of three months granted to Thinur. In very good condition, with a partial separation to integral second page, an almost total separation along bisecting horizontal fold, a light shade of toning and several small notations.
