Description

Scottish novelist and poet, author of Ivanhoe. ALS, one page both sides, 8 x 9, November 10. Letter of recommendation of his brother. In part, 'Mr. Thomas Scott a very honest and pleasant fellow though he has had his misfortune to fall under the wake of Fortune is now making an effort to get under sail again by the influence of General Ross his wife's near relative who has named him paymaster to his regiment. Some difficulties of an official nature...have occurred to delay the arrangement of his predecessors...If they are of a kind which your influence can smooth I venture in such a case to draw on your friendship without cunning and I refer you to himself for explanation. If not I am sure you will excuse my ignorance which in the anxiety to serve so near a relative is willing to draw upon your goodness.' In fine condition, with light shade of toning, rough left edge and a couple partial fold separations. RRAuction COA.
