DS as president, one page, 13.75 x 18, adorned with vignettes of an eagle at the top and collection of military equipment at the bottom, September 9, 1861. Lincoln appoints Laurence Babbitt to the position of Second Lieutenant in the Third Regiment of the Artillery. Nicely signed at the conclusion in black ink by Lincoln and counter-signed by his Secretary of War. Double suede matted and framed with a nice engraved portrait of Lincoln, to an overall size of 30.5 x 26. In fine condition, with expected folds, one affecting the tops of a couple letters of signature, intact but slightly worn seal, docketing to top left and two attractive vignettes.
