Robert Louis Stevenson conducts business from Samoa

Scottish essayist, novelist, and poet. Well-known for his adventure stories Kidnapped and Treasure Island, and for the startling tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. ALS, on a 9.5 x 7.25 sheet lightly lined in a grid pattern, Valima, Samoa, August 2, 1893. A brief communication regarding a financial transaction, to Messrs. Mitchell and Baxter of Edinburgh, Scotland. In full: 'I hereby advise you that I have this day upon you in presence of Mr. R. P. of Aspirnall of Africa for the sum of eighty pounds sterling. I am, yours truly, Robert Louis Stevenson.' In fine condition, with light overall creasing, staple holes to the upper left corner, and toning and a small tear to the right edge which could be matted out.
