Union general who was removed from command by Lincoln for failure to continue pressure on Lee's army during the Peninsula Campaign. ALS signed 'Geo B. McClellan,' three sides of two adjoined pages, 5.5 x 8.5, September 3, 1865. Interesting letter to a doctor regarding his party's movement throughout Germany, seeking medical help for a friend. In part, 'We went to the Rigi Scheidech, where we passed 11 days in the midst of clouds and rain, then we went to Zurich...we propose going hence to Nuremberg, Frankfurt...Our patient is doing very well with the exception of dyspepsia - which was very violent at Rigi Scheidech, but became much less so when we left the very bracing air. The dyspepsia is accompanied - or perhaps produced - by long continued constipation. Were that removed I think the patient would be perfectly well.' In fine condition, with light toning to mailing folds, a couple of pencil notations and a few light creases. RRAuction COA.
