“As Monday is the day for the regular meeting of the Academy of Science, it is the day that would be least convenient for the exam in question.”

Mathematician and physicist. He laid the foundations of the science of electrodynamics following Oersted's discovery in 1820 of the magnetic effects of electric currents. His name was given to the basic SI unit of electric current (ampere, amp). ALS in French, signed 'A. Ampere,' one page, 5 x 8, Commission de l' Instruction Publique letterhead, no date. In part, 'As Monday is the day for the regular meeting of the Academy of Science, it is the day that would be least convenient for the exam in question. So I would ask you to schedule this exam for next Wednesday, September 15.' In fine condition, with a bit of light toning and creasing to bottom edge.
