DS, signed 'Th: Jefferson,' one page, 8 x 5.75, no date. Incomplete document signed while Governor of Virginia, uses to promote members of the militia. Promotion also instructs the militia member of his responsibilities, 'You are to pay a ready Obedience to Orders and Instructions which from Time to Time you may receive from the Governor, or executive Power of State...All Officers and Soldiers under your command are hereby strictly charged and required to be obedient to your orders, and to aid you in the Execution of this Commission.' In very good condition, with scattered soiling, with a couple heavier small sections, two small spots of paper loss (silked on the reverse) affecting a couple letters of printed text, a couple light pencil notations and a nice bold signature.
