American Revolutionary politician and diplomat, Morris coined the terms 'dollar' and 'cent' for his system of decimal coinage. ALS signed 'Govn Morris,' one page both sides, 7.5 x 9.5, April 26, 1805. Letter to several gentlemen regarding an agreement concerning a road. In part, 'I presumed before as Mr. Cooper now acknowledges that the proposed road was his principal inducement. I was also persuaded that a road from his land...would be more useful to him than the others. It seems he has discovered this and wishes as I formerly suggested to get rid of his bargain. The professions of his letter...are fair but...in relinquishing the road agreed on and proposing another he intended to turn...towards her land thro his. I believe with him that the road intd. in the agreement would have been little or no use to the land thro which it was to run.' In fine condition, with scattered light soiling and toning and a tape remnant to top edge from previous mounting. RRAuction COA.
