Proceedings were not taken against him because his attempted crime was of such a nature that the publication of the particulars would have brought acute shame to innocent parties. I trust you will show him my letter and that you will inform Mr. Hammond in detail of the facts as well as Mr. Swanson, and so far as possible will give warning to all reputable citizens if the infamous character of this man.'
