Pierre G. T. Beauregard

Brigadier General of the Confederate Provisional Army, placed in command at Charleston, where he ordered the bombardment of Fort Sumter. ANS, 5.5 x 8.5, dated March 7, 1862. A war dated telegraph note on South-Western Telegraph Company stationery to Beauregard, which reads 'Telegram rec'd part unintelligible for want previous understanding. W.W. Marshall.' Beauregard penciled under this message 'Cypher [sic] was sent on 29th ult. to Murfreesboro. G.T.B.' In fair condition, fragile, with scattered edge loss and chipping, toning from tape repairs to reverse, several small areas of paper loss and a nice legible signature. RRAuction COA.
