Description

“No person is ever permitted to strike a child…no person can be enslaved for life or lose his head.”

The Birdman of Alcatraz. ALS, signed 'Bob, Robert Stroud number 594, one page both sides, 7.75 x 10.25, P.M.B. 594, Alcatraz, March 30, 1957. A letter to his half-sister, Mamie. In part: 'I have been reading a book on the land and people of Sumatra...although they were headhunters and canables [sic] have had a very high standard of culture...No person is ever permitted to strike a child...no person can be enslaved for life or lose his head...' Regarding a recent earthquake, 'I never pay much attention to them for the only danger is that something might fall on you...Love .' Stroud's signature appears again in the return address area on the front of the letter. In very good condition with toning, a vertical fold touching the 'd' in 'Stroud,' scattered trivial soiling and small amount of paper loss to the upper right corner. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
