The Birdman of Alcatraz. TLS, one page both sides, 8 x 10.5, May 16, 1940. Letter to his wife. In part, 'I have been having quite a few letters the last few weeks about sick birds and also a few bird inquiries. I had one from a lady in Madison who had seen one of the red birds I sold. She was in love with it and wanted to know what I had for sale...My birds are doing a lot better now. I have lost a few babies from the usual accidents...but I am getting a few right along and the most of them are doing well...I begins to look like I will have no trouble in getting 100 birds if I want that many.' In fine condition, with light toning and light show through from text on reverse. RRAuction COA.
