Kerouac writes to famous jazz saxophonist Sonny red. Kerouac gives him some advice to where he can find some jazz connections. In part, 'You were supposed to visit me at my room in the Hotel Ashley at four o'clock but I was thrown out at two o'clock because I had a girl in my room altho [sic] we were not balling...I told Mary Robinson to inform you of this...I could not get down to the 5 Spot to tell you about this because shortly after that I got hungup in my own horrible affairs, courthouses, judges, etc. and quickly dragged my ass back home here to my Ma's house where I am writing this letter to you...Now, enclosed in this here envelope, Boss Man, is another envelope addressed to the guy in San Francisco who can connect you with the poets and musicians there for what you want...the guy to whom the letter is addressed doesn't know anything about jazz but Bruce Lippincott is an interesting tenor man...but Ferlinghetti is the Boss Man of the poets there see?...My advice would be for you to hit the joint on Broadway first anyway and play and get yourself noticed by the big club in Frisco, the Blackhawk, and even play in the Blackhawk, and then go into the poet-jazz cellars and places.' He goes on to add a handwritten postscript, regarding his other letter. In full, 'The joke about 'Haystacks' and 'her' in the enclosed letter is a reference to Ferlinghetti's book 'Her' and no pun on you man.' In fine condition, with a few minor creases and expected mailing folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and by a certificate of authenticity from University Archives' John Reznikoff.
