Description

Arbuckle agrees to produce comedy films

DS, four pages, 8.5 x 12, January 20, 1923. Agreement between Arbuckle and Reel Comedies Incorporated for Arbuckle to produce 'a series of two reel motion picture comedies...all of a proper and entertaining character, with competent cast.' Arbuckle will receive 20,000.00 for each completed film, advancing him 5,000.00 per week for the first four weeks. Boldly signed on the last page in fountain pen by Arbuckle. In fine condition, with light toning and some minor edge wear. Nine months before this document was signed, Arbuckle was acquitted in his third trial for the murder of Virgina Rappe. His attempted return to directing was a failure due to public outrage, and it would be ten years before his death, shortly after finally returning to films.
