Scarce certificate of commendation from Task Force One Four Zero (TF-140), the Manned Spacecraft Recovery Force of the Atlantic Ocean, one page, 11 x 8.5, no date but circa March 1969, which reads, in full: "Be it known to all who sail the waters of the briny deep or soar through the blue skies above, that Mr. Paul Kruppenbacher while aboard the USS Guadalcanal (LPH-7) as MQF test Crewman for the Extra-Terrestrial Flight of Apollo 9 crewed by astronauts Col. James A. McDivitt, Col. David R. Scott, and Russell L. Schweickart, has demonstrated his expert qualification in the fine and mysterious arts required by the many and varied aspects of spacecraft launch support, orbital coverage, spacecraft reentry, location and recovery operations. He is therefore granted our express authorization to claim kindred spirit with these brave and daring astronauts. And know ye all by these presents that the exalted individual cited herein is to be accorded all the rights and privileges customarily accorded such distinguished personages." Lower portion bears two facsimile signatures and the original gold foil seal of the USS Guadalcanal. In fine condition. From the personal collection of Paul Kruppenbacher, a member of the NASA Houston Landing and Recovery Division who trained Apollo astronauts in water recovery procedures and was deployed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers for crew and spacecraft recovery operations.
