Description

Four items relating to John F. Kennedy's assassination and funeral:

- an original 8.5 x 22 teletype reporting on First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy's experience in the immediate aftermath of the assassination, dated November 23, 1963, carrying a piece by Associated Press reporter Frances Lewine, in part: "Mrs. Kennedy said goodbye to her husband with a kiss on his lifeless lips and then slipped her ring on his finger. And from then on—from the emergency room in the Dallas hospital where he was prepared for burial until she brought him home in death to the White House earlier today—she was at his side. As she passed through the somber portals of the Executive Mansion she still wore the pink suit stained with the blood of his fatal wounds…Her husband had been shot as he sat beside her in a gaily received motorcade. She had held him, bleeding and mortally wounded in a speeding dash to a Dallas hospital where he never regained consciousness…With the tragedy written in her face, Mrs. Kennedy stood beside Lyndon B. Johnson in a crowded compartment of the presidential plane as he took the Oath of Office to succeed her husband."

- an original 8.5 x 22 teletype reporting on the events of November 24, 1963, as President Kennedy lay in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, in part: "Mrs. John F. Kennedy returned dramatically to the Capitol rotunda tonight and kissed her husband's coffin for a second time. Officials in Washington says the government is pressing for disclosure of all the evidence against Lee Oswald, the accused slayer of President Kennedy who was himself shot to death today."

- an official printing of the "Eulogies to the Late President delivered in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol, November 24, 1963," by Mike Mansfield, Earl Warren, and John W. McCormack, six pages, 5.75 x 9, printed by the United States Government Printing Office in 1963.

- a modern satin-finish 8 x 10 print of the iconic photograph of John F. Kennedy, Jr., saluting his father's casket during his funeral procession, with a United Press International Photo credit stamp on the reverse.

In overall very good to fine condition, with tears and paper loss to the top edge of the November 23rd teletype and minor dampstaining to edges of the eulogy booklet. The two teletypes originate from the Robert L. White collection and are accompanied by certificates of authenticity from Erik L. Dorr.
