Description

"The wood in this historic gavel and box comes from George Washington's home at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello"

Handsome 10.5˝-long wooden gavel and velvet-lined 11.5˝ x 5˝ x 3.5˝ presentation box, crafted from significant American relics: the polished steel plate on the top is engraved with illustrations of Mount Vernon and Monticello, and reads: "The wood in this historic gavel and box comes from George Washington's home at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello. The steel is from the Battleship USS Missouri, on whose quarterdeck the Japanese agreement of surrender was signed by General of the Army MacArthur and Fleet Admiral Nimitz on September 2, 1945. Acknowledgments to the United States Navy, Mount Vernon Ladies Association, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation." In fine condition. A remarkable patriotic relic, uniting material from the homes of two Founding Fathers with steel from the battleship that witnessed the formal end of World War II.
