Space Shuttle-era left-handed TMG (Thermal Micrometeoroid Garment) glove, measuring approximately 15˝ in length, with an ILC Dover tag on the interior: “Item: TMG Glove Assembly, Part No. 0106-80538-19, Serial No. 065, Size 02B, Code ID 74897, Mfg. 12/80.” The TMG glove features a yellow urethane-coated fabric palm, gray silicone fingertips, cover flaps to the back of the hand, and Velcro strips. In very good to fine condition, with light scattered marks and wear, including scuffing and tearing to the palm fabric. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from ILC historian Bill Ayrey.
According to the consignor, the glove was used for astronaut training in the Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF), the large water tank building at the Johnson Space Center used to simulate the weightless conditions of extravehicular activity. Manufactured in December 1980, shortly before the first Space Shuttle mission in April 1981, this example represents an early generation of Shuttle-era EVA glove design. The TMG formed the outer protective layer of the glove assembly, providing thermal and micrometeoroid protection over the pressure glove during EVA.
