(Walt Disney Studios, 1950) Marvelous original panoramic concept painting by Mary Blair for Cinderella, which depicts Cinderella in her attic bedroom as her loyal bird and mouse friends work together to fashion her dress for the royal ball. Accomplished in tempera on a 20 x 10 illustration board, the panoramic scene centers on Cinderella in her attic bedroom as a pair of birds proudly present her newly fashioned ball gown, while the remaining birds and mice gather around in anticipation beneath the room's exposed rafters. Blair balances the cozy intimacy of the attic setting with her signature stylized forms and harmonious palette, transforming one of the film's most heartfelt moments into an elegant panoramic composition. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners.
Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World) and, her largest work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
