Description

Omega Constellation commissioned by Kim Il-sung's North Korean regime, with original state-issued certificate

Omega Constellation automatic wristwatch officially presented by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, featuring a silver-tone dial with applied baton hour markers, applied Omega logo and Constellation star, day-date aperture at 3 o’clock, fluted bezel, and the red facsimile signature of North Korean leader Kim Il-sung above the center. The stainless steel case is fitted with an integral-style Omega-stamped bracelet, signed crown, and Geneva Observatory medallion on the caseback. Complete with its hinged original red leatherette Omega box and "Watch Commendation Certificate" awarded by the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, which certifies the honoree as a 1986 recipient of "a watch bearing the engraved name of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung." Also includes the recipient's 2001 “Fatherland Reunification Prize” certificate, issued by the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK in recognition of his contributions to the movement for national independence and peaceful reunification.

Far more than a standard vintage Omega, this documented presentation watch represents an exceptionally uncommon artifact of North Korean state patronage. Specially commissioned from Omega for presentation by the North Korean regime, these Constellations were produced with Kim Il-sung’s red facsimile signature on the dial and bestowed as prestigious official rewards upon favored officials, overseas supporters, and others recognized for service to the state. Surviving examples accompanied by their original recipient documentation are seldom encountered on the public auction market.
