Description

"I wanted you to have something in Jack's handwriting—written in the White House while he was President"

Unsigned handwritten notes in pencil by President John F. Kennedy, one page, 5.25 x 5.5, in full: "Harris—all suits—to be brought down / Morgan / T.V. audience? / left podium / Miss O'Malley (Dad)." Matted beside a typed caption, "Reminder notes written by President Kennedy prior to coming to his office on January 26, 1961," with a handwritten note by Jacqueline Kennedy below: "For Ann—I wanted you to have something in Jack's handwriting—written in the White House while he was President—and I thought you might like this, as in it he wrote about his father—with all my love, Jackie, Christmas 1966." Framed to an overall size of 16.5 x 11.25. In fine condition, with light toning to the edges of the JFK notes.

Ann Gargan was JFK’s first cousin, the daughter of Rose Kennedy’s younger sister, Agnes Fitzgerald Gargan. Orphaned at a young age, Ann and her siblings remained closely connected to the Kennedy family, spending considerable time with their cousins at Hyannis Port and other family homes. She later became a devoted caretaker to her uncle, Joseph P. Kennedy, remaining at the former ambassador’s side during the years of disability that followed his 1961 stroke; through her, JFK maintained an especially personal connection to his ailing father.

From the estate of Ann Gargan King.
