Description

Original group of six Apple Computer engineering blueprints from the collection of Apple co-founder Ron Wayne, documenting the fabrication and assembly of the Apple II computer enclosure, consisting of four large-format 34 x 22 engineering drawings and two smaller-format 22 x 17 engineering drawings. Each blueprint bears an “Apple Computer” title block with engineering drawing numbers and technical drafting details, preserving the original working documentation produced for the manufacture of the Apple II enclosure.

The four large-format blueprints comprise:

- “Top Assembly Enclosure,” drawing no. “00500,” depicting the completed cabinet in front and side elevations.

- “Panel Assembly, Right & Left,” drawing no. “00501-xx,” an assembly drawing with exploded component views, complete parts list, hardware callouts, and engineering notes.

- “Panel, Side, Right & Left,” drawing no. “00514-xx,” a fabrication drawing with dimensional layouts, sectional details, material specifications, and manufacturing notes.

- “Frame, Panel, Right & Left,” drawing no. “00515-xx,” detailing the structural frame components with fabrication, bend, weld, and finish specifications.

The two smaller-format blueprints comprise:

- “Top Door Assembly,” drawing no. “00503,” an assembly drawing with complete parts list, Section A–A view, hardware callouts, and material specifications, including aluminum extrusion, aluminum angle, and rolled steel components.

- “Door Top,” drawing no. “00519,” a fabrication drawing with dimensional layouts, drilling and countersink details, engineering notes, and material and finish specifications calling for .125 Type 304 stainless steel.

In overall fine condition, with expected handling wear, intersecting folds, and toning. Accompanied by a period copy of the Apple-II Advance Order Information document issued by Apple Computer, Inc., and a reproduction booklet titled “Apple-1 Computer Case Designs: Drawn by Ron Wayne – 1976 (Apple Computer co-founder),” reproducing the Apple-1 case engineering drawings.

Although Ronald Wayne's partnership in Apple Computer lasted only twelve days, he continued to work with the company during its formative years. In addition to creating Apple's first logo depicting Isaac Newton beneath an apple tree, Wayne was later retained by Steve Jobs to prepare engineering drawings for the enclosure of the forthcoming Apple II. Introduced in 1977, the Apple II became one of the first highly successful mass-produced personal computers, establishing Apple as a leading force in the emerging personal computer industry. These original engineering blueprints offer a rare glimpse into the development and manufacture of the computer that transformed Apple from a fledgling startup into one of the defining companies of the modern technology era.

Originates from the collection of Ron Wayne, who gifted it to consignor Owen Linzmayer during the research of his book Apple Confidential.
