Description

Three ink signatures of prominent American industrialists and business leaders of the early twentieth century — Henry F. Sinclair (“H. F. Sinclair”), Charles M. Schwab (“C. M. Schwab”), and Elbert H. Gary (“E. H. Gary”) — on individual off-white slips ranging in size from 3.25 x 1.75 to 4.5 x 1, individually affixed to a slightly larger backing sheet, which date the signatures to June, July, and September of 1927, respectively. In overall fine condition.

Representing three of the most powerful figures in American oil and steel during the nation's industrial ascendancy, this attractive grouping brings together Henry F. Sinclair (1876–1956), founder of Sinclair Oil Corporation and one of the era's leading petroleum magnates; Charles M. Schwab (1862–1939), the steel executive who led Carnegie Steel, U.S. Steel, and Bethlehem Steel; and Elbert H. Gary (1846–1927), founding chairman of U.S. Steel and one of the most influential figures in the American steel industry. Together, their enterprises helped fuel the rapid expansion of American manufacturing, transportation, and infrastructure in the early twentieth century. Particularly notable is the inclusion of Gary, whose signature was obtained just weeks before his death in August 1927.
