Description

Wonderful pair of color satin-finish 4 x 5 portrait photographs of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, each affixed to its original mount and signed on the mount in fountain pen. Diana's portrait, depicting the Princess wearing the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, is warmly inscribed, "Dear Wendy, Much love from Diana, 1993." Charles' portrait, showing the Prince seated outdoors in Highland dress with his Jack Russell terrier, is signed, "Charles 1993." Each is displayed in its original leather presentation frame, each measuring 7 x 9.75, with Diana's black frame bearing a gilt-crowned "D" crest and Charles' green frame bearing the gilt Prince of Wales's feathers with a Soos of London mark to the reverse. In overall very fine condition.

The portraits are inscribed to Wendy Berry, who served as housekeeper to Prince Charles and Princess Diana at Highgrove House from 1985 until the couple's separation in 1992. Berry later chronicled her experiences during those years in her 1995 memoir, The Housekeeper's Diary: Charles and Diana Before the Breakup, offering an insider's account of life within the royal household. Signed in 1993, these presentation photographs date to the year following Charles and Diana's separation in December 1992. Their divorce was finalized in August 1996, just one year before Diana's death in Paris.
