(Walt Disney Studios, 1942) Original test cel from the production of Bambi, depicting two deer rendered in graphite on paper, carefully trimmed, and applied to a 16-field cel. White paint streaks have been added to the cel to suggest motion. Images measure 5.75 x 11 and 2.5 x 7, with overall dimensions of 15.5 x 12.5. In fine condition, with light soiling to the celluloid.
Test cels of this type were filmed early in production to evaluate movement and backgrounds, and to serve as rough animated interpretations of the storyboard. As they were typically discarded after use, surviving examples are quite scarce.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
