Description

Original 4.25 x 2.5 admission ticket for a “Baseball-Vorführung [Baseball Demonstration]” at the historic Berlin 1936 Summer Games, held at the Olympic Stadium on August 12th. Matted and framed with a postcard photo of an aerial view of Berlin’s Olympic Stadium to an overall size of 10.5 x 12.5; window to frame backing reveals reverse of ticket and postcard. In very good to fine condition, with paper loss to the upper right corner.

Baseball was a demonstration sport at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. The single exhibition game was played on August 12, 1936, before the track and field competitions between two American teams. The single-nation arrangement had been made after the original matchup between Japan and the United States was scrapped after the Japanese team withdrew. The two teams were named the World Champions and the U. S. Olympics, with the former winning 6-5 in front of 90,000 spectators in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. Although Japan opted out of the baseball demo, they certainly excelled in the swimming events; Japanese swimmers amassed 11 total medals – the most of any nation – including four golds.
