Description

Collection of 16 unused tickets for a Broadway production of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City on May 4, 2016, each 5.5 x 2, which includes nine tickets designated for ‘Orchestra’ seats and seven tickets for ‘Left Mezzanine,’ with tickets ranging in face value from $158 to $177. In overall very fine condition.

These tickets date to the original Broadway production of Hamilton during the height of the musical’s initial cultural and commercial breakthrough. The performance occurred less than a year after the show officially opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 6, 2015, and only weeks before Hamilton dominated the 70th Tony Awards, where it received a record-setting 16 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical.

Importantly, the May 4, 2016, performance fell within the tenure of the acclaimed original Broadway cast led by creator Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, and Jonathan Groff. Several principal cast members would depart the production only months later in July 2016, making spring 2016 one of the final periods in which audiences could experience the complete original cast together on Broadway.

Unused complete ticket groups from the original Broadway run are increasingly scarce, particularly examples preserved from the production’s earliest and most historically significant season.
