Description

Original vintage pearl-finish 9.5 x 7.5 photograph of Al Capone at Chicago’s Superior Courthouse in early March 1931, when he was brought in on charges of vagrancy. The reverse bears an affixed caption, annotated and date-stamped March 6, 1931. In very good condition, with rippling, creasing, and loss to the bottom edge. Encapsulated by PSA as an authentic 'Type I' photograph from circa 1931.

Superior Court Judge Padden of Chicago ordered the arrest of Al Capone on February 23, 1931. However, on April 3, 1931, he was obliged to dismiss the charge of vagrancy against the gang leader when no satisfactory complainant could be found. Capone was subsequently tried and convicted of income tax evasion, which resulted in his conviction and a sentence of 11 years in federal prison.

The Marc and Mary Perkins Collection.
