Description

Jewish-American journalist and newspaper publisher (1847–1911) who established the Pulitzer Prize 'for the encouragement of public service, public morals, American literature, and the advancement of education.' Office of the Post-Dispatch business check, 8 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and signed by Pulitzer, "Joseph Pulitzer," payable to Ig. Kappner for $500, October 6, 1880. In fine condition, with a cancellation hole affecting only the inconsequential endorsement on the back. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as "NM 7."

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
