Description

Eight-foot-wide Twitter bird metal wall display from the company's New York offices, a surviving symbol of the platform's pre-X identity

Original Twitter, Inc. ‘bird logo’ metal wall display from the company’s New York offices at 249 West 17th Street in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Used as a corporate branding fixture within the company’s offices, the large architectural display dates to the era when the iconic bird logo served as the public face of Twitter before the platform’s 2023 rebranding as X. The display consists of a large bird-outline silhouette measuring 96˝ x 72˝ x 4.25˝, fabricated from black-painted cut steel and retaining its original welded standoff mounting hardware to the reverse for wall installation. Designed to project slightly from the wall surface, the logo would have created a distinctive shadow-box effect within the office environment. In fine condition, with scattered surface wear, edge abrasions, and expected signs of prior display use.

Founded in 2006, Twitter transformed global communication through its real-time social networking platform, becoming an indispensable medium for news, politics, entertainment, sports, and cultural discourse. Its bird logo, known internally as ‘Larry,’ a tribute by co-founder Biz Stone to Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, became one of the most recognizable corporate identities of the digital age. Installed as part of Twitter’s office branding program during the company’s pre-X era, this large-scale architectural logo represents a tangible relic of one of the defining visual identities of the social-media age.
