Description

Stainless steel Apollo 11 medallion struck from a die carried to the moon by the Apollo 11 crew, 2.5˝ in diameter, with the front bearing the Project Apollo logo with upper and lower text: "Lunar Landing, July 1969"; and the reverse reading: "The die for this medallion was carried to the moon and back by the crew of Apollo 11 in July, 1969," with facsimile signatures of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins below.

Accompanied by a TLS signed by NASA director Kurt H. Debus, one page, NASA letterhead, July 16, 1974, sending the medallion to public affairs officer Arnold Richman, in part: "A limited number of stainless steel medallions were made in commemoration of the first lunar landing mission. A special die was flown on Apollo 11 and was then utilized to fabricate the medallion…I would like for you to have one of these medallions in recognition of the role you played in achieving this national goal."
