Spanish morion helmet, late 16th–early 17th century, measuring 14˝ x 12˝ x 11˝, constructed of forged iron or steel in classic form, with a high medial comb and broad upturned brim rising to pronounced points at the front and rear. The bowl is decorated with finely executed embossed ornament, centered by a circular cartouche and surrounded by flowing scrollwork motifs. The interior reveals the reverse of the repoussé decoration, with rivet holes at the base for the now-missing liner. The surface exhibits expected oxidation and wear consistent with age; the brim bears white ink notations. In fine condition, with evidence of polishing and restoration. Morions of this type were widely used by Spanish infantry, including soldiers active in the New World during the later phases of the conquistador period.
