Outlaw and older brother of Jesse James (1843-1915). Charming original pen-and-ink sketch accomplished by Frank James on an off-white 4.25 x 6 lined sheet, enclosed with one of his jailhouse letters to his wife, Anna. The highly detailed sketch shows Frank James kissing Anna through the open grid of the jail cell door, his hand grasping one of the crossbars; Anna has captioned the drawing in pencil, "Kissing through the 'bars,'" and transcribed a verse from a poem by Maggie May Danehy above: "Many lips unto one speak / Friendships faith repeating / Lips of one alone I seek / With this gentle greeting." On the reverse, she writes: "Still my griefs are mine." In fine condition, with intersecting folds, uniform toning, and neatly torn edges.
