Original semi-glossy 4.5 x 6.5 silver gelatin photo of Oglala Lakota leader Young-Man-Afraid-Of-His-Horses, taken circa 1884 by David Francis Barry, a pioneering photographer of the American West, housed in its original 7 x 10.5 studio mat, signed in white ink, "Barry Photo," with "Barry" blindstamped on the mat, and a credit label affixed to the reverse: "D. F. Barry, Photographs of All Noted Indian Chiefs, Photographer, 1312 Tower Ave., Superior, Wisconsin." In fine condition, with a light crosshatch grid pattern to the emulsion.
