Description

ALS signed "B. F. Branham, Sheriff, by Eben C. Farley, Under-Sheriff," one page, 8 x 10, Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office letterhead, July 13, 1885. Handwritten letter to Constable J. C. White, in part: "I will send you the description of Ah Quong alias Hip Sing. He is a native of China, age 26 or 27 height 5 ft 5 in or 5 ft 6 in, very white for a chinaman, the finger next to the little finger on the left hand is crooked in…There is a reward of $600 for him upon conviction. If your Chinaman answers the above description let me know and I will go and get him. Let me hear from you by return mail or express or telegraph." Includes an original 2.25 x 3.5 albumen mug shot photograph of "Ah Quong." In very good to fine condition, with scattered light foxing and toning, and clipped and rounded corners.
