Handwritten letter to "His Excellency Governor Woodson," in full: "I respectfully call your attention to my self as wishing to undertake the capture of the James Bros. & Youngers. I am at your service & if you wish me to undertake the capture of the aforesaid parties, send orders for my guidance. I am well used to such fellows. I was raised on the frontiers of Missouri and Kansas, and all I would request of you would be your sanction of lawfull operations on my part. My home is at present at Winfield, Cowley Co., Kans., but am on a visit to some friends in Ill. And if you wish me to undertake their capture send orders and I will report immediately." In fine condition, with all of the handwriting very light, but still readable. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
