ALS signed “Robert M. Boatright,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, May 27, 1875. Handwritten letter to "Hon. Gov. Hardin, Governor of Missouri," in part: "Having been connected for several years in the private detective business in this city, & having worked diligently to ascertain the perpetrators of the recent Rail Road Bank and Store Robberies committed in this State, In which the Younger & James Brothers were supposed to be the perpetrators & being now in a position In which I feel confident I can arrest the actual perpetrators of said Deeds, I desire some information from you as regards rewards offered for said robbers, if any, and whether the rewards are confined strictly to the Younger & James Brothers, If so cannot the reward be so altered or ammended as to cover the guilty parties whoever they may be (on conviction) I would also ask if any distinction is made in regard to the amount of rewards for the chief or chiefs of these Gangs. I am perfectly satisfied their is two gangs of these Desperadoes but are working under one head or chief." In fine condition.
