Hand-drawn and annotated map of the Battle of the Little Bighorn by Casper Mayer of Troop G, 1st Cavalry, one page, 11 x 8.5, signed and dated in the lower left corner, "C. Mayer, 4/3/34—1888." Mayer recalls the Little Bighorn battlefield from his time there in the late 1880s, sketching a map showing the flow of the "Little Horn" river coming down from the mountains, downstream "towards the Big horn," with the "Indian camp" located in the "2½–3 miles" area between river bends. Below, Mayer writes: "Custer crossed the Little Horn and was driven back after going about a half mile. 2–3. Trail Custer took coming down and going back. The big bend of graves shows the way they fought back to the last stand. In the vicinity where I placed the figures 2–3 were many graves. They were, as I remember, taken up about 1891. About 1891 or so, the remains of an officer's uniform were found. The buttons of a medical officer." In fine condition.
